I have a feeling that this is a trap.

Prediction: The writer will go to evil, glorious lengths this year to strengthen the Merthur bond. It will be established that not only does Arthur accept Merlin as his best friend, but Arthur we begin to trust Merlin above all others. The ratings go wilde as news spreads threw the fan-girl network the show is gay again.The penultimate episode of season 4 will have Merlin’s magic revealed and Arthur will not take it well. There will be some dramatic ending were they will fall on opposite sides and the trust will be broken, and we will all cry in the corner.

This will set season 5 up to deal with after effects; Arthur flinging himself into Gwen’s glorious bosom, and getting their romance back on the road, Morgana viewing Merlin as a direct threat to her, Merlin being kick out of Camelot, but still hanging around to save everyones collective bums and trying to make Arthur like him again. This swings us back ‘round to the mythology,

I will enjoy the tomfoolery and pantlessness whilst I can, because it has a nefarious purpose. As a writing this is how I would do it, it set up the betrayal and effect well. 

Mind, the myths have Arthur and Merlin as Allies, so you know trust will be regained and magic accepted, so forgiveness will be on its way, and I shan’t be surprise if the fandom isnt freaking out about another embrace-gate this time next year
